Hi all
Well it finally came to this. I knew it was comming.I fired my vet after he gave me a lecture on how I am killing my dog by refusing more vaccines (except rabies) and not continuing his heart worm meds and putting him on a raw diet. He rufuesd to run Titers on him his next visit and told me if I had it done I was waisting my mony becasue he would never sign an expemption no matter what. So here is my problem. I need to find a vet who will understand my concerns and address them accordingly. I live in Marinette Wi that is about 50 miles north of Green Bay. I have no problem driving a ways as long as I get the proper health care for my pup. We still want to continue in our kennel club and as long as I have written proof that my dog is not a health threat to the rest they will accept that in lue of booster vac's. My pup is being treated for vaccinosis homeopathicly so why would I want to risk any further injury to his system once we get him well again. This guy just made me so angrey. HELP
Ann - selecting a Vet is no different than picking a Doctor for your family. Ask your dog friends if they know of a holistic Vet - because of where you live you are probably going to have to drive some distance.
If your friends can't help then you have to use the yellow pages and start calling different Vets. Ask if they do titers. That’s the first step. If they don’t do titers then you need to keep looking.
You should be a little careful if you have heartworm in your area. Heartworm meds are not in the same category as vaccinations.
Thanks for the responses. Ed I know heartworm meds are one of those touchy issues. The only reason I choose not to use them anymore is that my pup becomes very ill for several days after I give them. We were using heartgaurd plus the one of choice by most vets but he just cant take it. I think I have found a vet that will suit us. She was one that I used for my horses several times and her attitude about holistic and homeopathic ways is great she told me straight out "You are the client and I do everything to the best of my ability to accomidate you." She does the titers if asked. 30% of her clients feed a raw diet, and about that same number choose not to vaccinate except rabies. I will give her a try she is very willing to work with me. Thanks again for the help.
Ann, Heartgard plain (unflavored) might still work. It's possible that the dewormer (pyrantel) or the beef flavoring is causing the problem (not to mention what they have to do to preserve that flavor). In addition, ivermectin can cross the blood/brain barrier in some dogs (mostly collies, but also some other dogs in other breeds). If the symptoms are neurological then you can try Interceptor, only you can use a much lower dose (Safeheart is the lower dose option, but not available in the US) than the one printed on the box. Just print out Safeheart info and take it to your vet.
I don't know how bad HW is in your area, but I have a dog with lots of problems as well and she gets ivermectin. Since her immune system is already compromised she is more likely to get it and I live in a high risk area (NC).
If you are on a raw feeding list or in a co-op in your area ask there. I found a great holistic vet that way, but he isn't listed with the AHVMA so I wouldn't have been able to find him otherwise.

Thanks for that info. After posting my last reply I got a call from a friend of mine and we were just talking about our animals. She said her vet in Green Bay was the one I should try she is listed in the AHVMA and has been practincing for quite sometime. I thought that was great <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> I now have 2 options when before I thought I had none. Heart worm is not a real big issues here but I will investigate the info you gave me. I just could not understand why my FORMER (jerk) vet would not suggest something. Obviously if you go to the doctor and he gives you meds that are making you sick you wouldnt take them anymore so why do it to your dog.
