I ahve a question before i buy this thing. what is it that makes it so much better then rakes or shedding blades or even combs that have teeth very close together? i read in a previous post that this thing is heaven sent but why makes it so good? are the teeth.....made of something that collects all dead hair like a megnet? please explain this tool for me.
Jason
Here us a thread on this. All i know is that my wife and I got one and it really has cut down on the amount of hair in the house, we use it pretty much every day adn it really has cut down on the loose dog hair in the house. So here is a pretty good thread on this tool.

I can't really explain, Jason, but my theory is that, while shedding blades' teeth are parallel with each other and only 'cut' knots and tangles, the Furminator's teeth have tapered gaps which gently pull out loose under-fur without affecting the hairs which are still 'attached'.
I have run it through my own hair and it extracts nothing(I still have plenty, BTW, but no undercoat <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> )
On our very 'furry' cat, it removed huge amounts (great in our warm climate!).
The 14yo cat appears to enjoy it and furballs have been greatly reduced.
She looks about half her previous size (we were, briefly, worried that we were starving her!), but her coat is now much more 'hairy' than 'furry'.
Of course it's not a one-off, it needs repeating about weekly with our MalxGSD!
Jason,
Trust me I feel your pain on the that much for a comb, but then again look at all of the dollars we spend and really in some cases do not have the support or other information that we needed there. Heck I bought my first sets of Ed's DVD from what the folks on this site said about him. Now here I am on a Leerburg site hearing how great Leerburg products are.. LOL Good thing for me that they were as good as every one said. All I know is that my 6 month old pup must be doing pretty well, had a friend over this past weekend who could not believe how well my Max is behaved at 6 months, yes so he jumps up on you a bit and is a bit mouthy still, I will take those kind of issues over having a dog at 6 month that I am consdiering get rid of.... LOL So at least you have good reviews from folks who are not making a penny off of the product just users of it :-).

Worth the money? Only you can say.
But when I consider how many $$ I have wasted buying collars, leads, brushes, etc which just didn't cut it, I am really pleased to have a 'tool' which really does the job <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
What I paid is (almost) forgotten, and my wife thinks it's as great as I do <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I have most of these tools. The furminator takes out dead outercoat as well as undercoat, and leaves a very nice sheen. The colors appear more vivid. I use it every week or two, the rake more often, and a simple metal comb for the feathers and anytime a mat seems to be developing. Using this comb, the house stays cleaner. I am not sure it is meant for everyday use, however.
