Giardia dies after just a short while out of the body, so a pre-collected stool sample will almost never be positive. Straight from dog-to slide-to scope is the best way to nail it down, and even then, they can shed the oocytes sporadically. Hope you get the cause targeted right away.
Aha! Is that why it's often considered a clinical diagnosis? I never understood this about the quick testing.
Ok I talked to my buddy that is a K9 officer and he gave me the info of a full on hospital with 24hr care 365 days a yr, and specialists ect.. I have an appointment for 10:45 thur. morning. I will feel so much better knowing it is a specialist and he will know more then myself unlike my old vet. <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Thank you "guys" again for all the info and questions to ask/angles to explore.
My pup, when he was younger had lot of issues with upset stomach. But everytime I switched to raw food, he would be okay in 1 day. I remember that rice and chicken did not go with him.
Try not to give food with so much fiber for now and see if it makes any difference.
For now we are sticking with the hill i/d. She did a float and culture and will have the results back by Tue. She also set me up for a blood test on Sat. (he has to be fasted for 12hrs) and she will see if it is a b12 deficency(sp) She agreed the hills i/d is a temporary fix until we get the results back. And also gave me some tylan powder to help until we get a 100% ans.
I must say I am not easily impressed but this place was better then some human hospitals I have seen. HOSPITAL LINK
This new place combined with all your help gives me some hope that we can finally get it diagnosed.
Thanks again everyone and I will be sure to keep you posted.
