Hello. I am an infrequent poster due to being a novice, but I read this board daily. Thus I am very open to the wonderful insight and knowledge that many folks here have been shown to possess. I was wondering if there is anyone that could mentor me either through e-mail or here in the local area. I am learning about dog training on this board and from the DVD's OB that I've gotten from Leerburg. I would be grateful to 'see' training and OB in action. I am in the Fairbanks, AK area and winter is coming on fast. The weather makes it difficult to travel long distances at times.
I am still very wary of training my dog and pup incorrectly or making them neurotic. I just have no experience and thus little confidence. Please understand that I'm not whining, just frustrated. Any ideas? I would like to get into Competition Obedience. It would be fun for me and the dogs, plus my Brittany doesn't necessarily have to have papers to compete in some events as I understand it.
Thank you very much! I'll let you know how it turns out. You have the two show line shepherds, male and female? You are starting them out in Schutzhund? Wanted to say congrats on your female's(?) title.
WOW Cat - you totally just made my day. Yes, we have 2 show line GSD's in addition to the old Beagle and the Mutt-Of-Unknown-Origin. Kimba recently earned her SchH1 (and I mean EARNED it). Thanks for remembering!!
I really think Liz could steer you in some good directions - I hope you contact her.
Cat, if you are talking about AKC performance events, then you can get your Brittany an ILP number from the AKC and enter those events. You have to submit photos of the dog and proof the dog is spayed/neutered. You can go to the AKC web site for information.
I'm sure there may be other registries, such as the UKC, that would permit your dog to participate.
