Steve, another comment. I am not a molosser fancier as a rule, but I must say he sure does look like a perfect cane corso "type". Very healthy and very handsome cane corso, beautiful head on him. I went to look up the breed and it does seem most of them have the very short crop. I kinda like fold over ears, myself. Is his coat as soft as it looks to be in the pictures? And he's got the prettiest eyes I think I've seen in a long time.

Oh, it was awful. I don't see how the owner(s) would be able to live w/themselves... ..totally horrifying. While we'll never know exactly which dog did what, I was just trying to play devil's advocate on the name thing. While I wouldn't have named a dog likely to be mistaken "Bane," I don't think that Steve intentionally chose the stigmatized Bane as his Bane's namesake...or at least I sincerely hope he wouldn't do that. Lots of people name their dogs kind of "scary" or intimidating names...and it usually is just that-a name. However, what makes me nervous about this case is that like Ed said, I'd hate to see Steve in court trying to defend his dog were there ever an issue. We all know that justified or not, the media would compare his Bane to THAT Bane. He just needs to be extra careful to keep a good clean image of his handsome mutt (who, like Janice pointed out, does have very pretty eyes.

Yep, they couldn't make any good comparisons between bite wounds to see which ones came from which dog, because there were so many that they all overlapped -- However, Hera's excrement did contain Diane Whipple's undigested clothing...
I'm not comparing the original poster OR his Cane Corso with Noel & Knoller and their killer Presa Canarios -- My comments were strictly about the ill-advisability of his name choice, under the circumstances (and yes, that fighting crop does seem to be standard for showlines in this breed).
How anyone can live without a dog is beyond me... |

Yup thats it I named him Bane after the Whipple case, and I named his sister Isis after a horrible character as well. You know the Chow Samoyed mix with the pink heart collar in the other pics. They are both soooo scary! And I came here to spit in the face of society.
Odd thats not the case. I came here to talk to other smart dog owners with good info that get an image cast on them as well because of the breed they choose.
You people bitch and moan about the media hype around dog attacks and yet you buy right into it. I am amazed how a member can point out that Hera is a name used as well but im burned at the stake for using Bane. I like the name Bane, he was going to be names Aries but it didnt fit him. Bane did because he is going to be big and he destroys stuffed animals for fun. So unless you dress up like one and start squeeking I think your safe.
And for those that have shown support I thank you for keeping an open mind and reading other posts of mine and not joining in on the stake burning party because you realize im here to better my puppys lives as well as try and help people.
p.s. his ears arent shaved you are seeing the inside "pink" part of his ears

(in the pics he kinda looks black) I was so happy when he kept his puppy eyes color as well because they usually turn orange on his color.

I'm not a big breed person either, but I have been around this breed. I'v seen alot of folks who were responsible breeders and owners of this breed and they all took extremely good care of their dogs. Great advocates of any breed, and yet, every Cane Corso I'v seen had their ears shortly cropped. I'v never seen one in person that had floppy ears. I think ridiculing this guy for what seems to be a breed standard is like ridiculing people for docking Rotties tales, and cutting dobermans ears. Frankly it would look awkward to me to see a CC with tall cropped ears or floppy ears because all these responsible CC owners I'v seen all had short cropped ears. I'v never seen them any other way on a CC. As for the name, I had no idea at all what the names of the dogs were who attacked the lady in SF, I mean who keeps up with that? I seen the story many times when it was hot and never recalled the dogs name, didn't really matter what the dogs name was, could have been john doe for all it mattered. I know many responsible people who have dogs named hannible, zeus, Glock, Kruger, Demon, crusher. Heck I'm not even a big drinker and I had a Mal named Budweiser, sold him to a department here in NC and they retained his name Budweiser. I'm pretty sure I'm not trailer trash and I'm a responsible owner. The dog named himself during the selection process with a budweiser can when he was in the litter (long story). People especially guys tend to name their dogs something tough. The question here would be did you intentionally name your dog after the dogs in SF. That would insinuate some underlying issues with Mr. Steve. Other than that if you guys had not said anything at all about the name, I would have never known it's meaning or what other dogs had that name. I think Steve is to be commended for coming to an educational website like Leerburg and is attempting to further educate himself to be as responsible an owner as he can be. Those with other motives for coming here, usually are seen through in their first two posts, they are outted as not ever needing a dog and they don't return. Steve welcome aboard and if I can help with anything let me know.
PS: I know a very responsible and knowledgeable CC breeder in GA I can put you in touch with him for most of your CC questions. He's a really good and very knowlegeable and realistic about the breed.
****EDITED TO ADD THIS I JUST FOUND******
Where the name Sir Bane comes from. Personally I like it and Steve I think it's a good name for a supposedly noble protector of his master.
Bane Ironthatch
Knight
Recently knighted Sir Bane Ironthatch III is eager to fulfill any exciting quest his queen may assign. He wields a mighty sword and the courage of a whole militia, on both of which he relies in the heat of battle. When he joins the other heroes, he takes on the responsibility to protect them through anything they may stand up against, and loyally does so to the best of his ability. Among the bunch, though, he seems to prioritize a certain Black Mage, appointing himself as her personal guardian.

Chris,
First off I must say that is cool as hell and I give you a big thank you for helping me with his "official" name. I had been throwing around so many things to try and make him sound noble and that fits the bill! not bad for a hillbilly j/k THANK YOU!
As for the rest of the post thank you as well. It is nice to see people stand next to me with an open mind and if you are ever in the area drinks are on me!
