Hi Carolyn,
Here is a little about the Boerboel, borrowed from my breeders website:
The Boerboel dates back to the first arrival of the European settlers at the Cape of Storms. The settlers brought with them a mastiff type dog that has formed the basis for the South African Boerboel of today. That dog has been developed into a larger , sturdier dog than was originally.
Dogs from different regions were brought into the country and those that survived the harsh terrain, dangers, and climate of Southern Africa were automatically used for breeding material in hopes of improvement for generations to follow. Along with this came the elimination of unsuitable dogs, resulting in the South African Boerboel. A versatile, sound of mind, agile and protective dog able to adapt to meet the needs of the rural families.
In the hard environment of Southern Africa, the settlers were extremely dependant on their dogs and their muskets for protection. The Boerboel had to be their first line of warning against danger, a noisy dog would have put them in harms way. The main dangers for the farmer would have been wild animals, reptiles, and hostile raiders. This all required that the Boerboel be a strong, agile, and watchful dog in order to do his job fully. As with any type of farm worker, the Boerboel would not be usable had he been too big or lazy to perform his daily activities of chasing predators away, herding livestock, following his owner on either wagon or horseback and track game as well.
The temperament and character had to be strong, yet still being a calm, and docile dog. Adaptable and obedient when trained.
There were no kennels or enclosures to lock up dogs with behavioral issues, these dogs would have been eliminated out of necessity.
Truman is now 18 weeks, and doing fantastic. Very focused for his age, and super eager to please. He is doing great in his OB training. I'd like to do some competitive OB with him and possibily some protection work. He comes out of working lines and is already starting to show some protective instinct. He is super confident, while being loving to my family. Expecially my 1 and 2 year old boys. Here is a more recent pic of him. http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l162/imcalvinsmom/HansomeT.jpg

Tracy, as per the forum rules for the "Members Photos and short Bio" area:
"This forum is the place for a picture or two of you and your dog. Only two photos are allowed and one must contain a photo of the owner. Any posts that contain more than 2 photos will be deleted. Tell us a little about yourself if you like. It's always nice to put a face with a name."
You'll need to either delete one of these photos or change it to a photo that contains yourself also.
Sorry, those are the rules.
Your attention to this matter would be appreciated.
Hi Will,
Sorry about that. I've been trying to figure out how to delete the first pic, but for the life of me I can't. Is it possible for you to delete it for me? Sorry for the trouble.
