Zero response? The reason I sent it out in the first place, is because the other day, I was giving the big dog (GSD) a back scrub-rub-down and noticed a bit of the oily white film on my hand. This happened with my old dog occasionally too.
However, I did the same thing to this dog yesterday and there was nothing, no film, nothing. Hmmm. I just thought someone here would know about this issue. Is it related to shedding/new coat growth perhaps?
Will call the vet, even though it does not appear to be a pressing health issue...his skin and fur on back and sides all appears healthy, not dry flaky. Plus the issue seems to be intermittant with seasons and disappears with this dog as quickly as it sets in, what ever *it* is... <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
I've noticed this with a lot of dogs, especially if I pet them along the body and not just the head. I always assumed it was just their natural oil and dirt.
Agreed, happens on the trunk/torso part of the body. I *assumed* the same, oil dead skin combo, but wondered if this condition has a *real* name. It seems it is so intermittant, and like I said, a seasonal thing.
He already had a bath this summer, only bathe him a few times a year. And, the "thing" isn't happening now, so, I guess we're home free. "Chalk" it up to a unknown variable among dogs, weather, etc, etc.
Thanks for sharing/posting your experience with this issue.
