Heather, I had the same thing happen to me when I was a kid, only with my horse...a beautiful Arabian named Ibin. My dad got rid of him because of the expense. I still have dreams where I'm looking for the horse. Later that year, I came home from school to find two people carting off my cat. My dad had put an ad in the paper behind my back and tried to get rid of her while I was gone. I sobbed about that one. I'm sorry you went through that. I'll tell you one thing...it makes me a better parent now. The things you do to a child will linger into their adult live and I don't forget it.
PS- I could never watch Old Yeller now! I would never want to be that sad again.
