I use vet wrap and elastikon on my lure coursing and racing whippets.
Cover the pastern, then a wrap around the stopper pad as well. I find with a dog that really makes contact with the ground, the vet wrap slides down, so I use a strip of elastikon at the top and at the bottom to help anchor it.
They make Vet wrap in a 2" size, which I find is perfect this use. And colorful!
I've wanted to use the splint-type boots made of neoprene that some flyball people use, but in asking my friends the general concensus has been that they slide too much.
Vet-wrap is just the brand name; there are less expensive alternatives like co-flex, but I like the 2" Vet-wrap best for dogs. it's tougher and sticks better than other brands. The polo-wraps we use on our horses (I'll admit it, I'm a dressage-queen) are too heavy for our dogs, even the ones that are really worn out. I've used vet-wrap to prevent dew-claws from getting ripped off in the field on my dogs that still had them, and thought it was just the right weight.
