i used my first GSD as a pheasant dog many of times, she use to go out and just go crazy running around and doing i am not sure....she loved rocks...so here we are she is on heel and then i would reach into my pocket and produce a rock and i would throw it to the right and off she would go. well she had a great nose and anything that was alive or dead she would find or flush out....once the area was covered i would produce another rock and throw it to the left and so forth though the fields ....worked rather well....i would be talking to guys about hunting and stop by and they would ask "DO you have a dogs?"...you should see there faces when my GSD would spring out of the house ready to go hunting....Priceless
