Alex, in Ed's dvd he trains the dog to not jump on him with the off command and a nick. I don't think you want to shock your dog when he's close enough to someone to jump on them, he may decide that they hurt him and cause you more problems then just jumping.
Rich & Steve, my brother and I have Ed's dvd on remote training and I have seen the video a few times. The video prompted me to buy an e-collar "just in case" I ever needed it. My dog is a wk into the conditioning phase of the e-collar. I have yet to use it and won't for another 2 weeks.
She has been trained to sit about 15ft from the door and stay when people come over. She does fine when it's my wife or I, but bolts to the door with new people. The problem I have had w/a leash and collar is when I open the door, she is at the door. All I can do is restrain her from trying to jump, but she has already broken her sit and made it to the door. If I try to pop the leash before she breaks her sit, it's hard because I am usually jerking her towards me at the door. I think the e-collar will work because I can nick her from far BEFORE she gets into any kind of drive. I just wasn't sure and wanted to ask your thoughts. I can see how it would work in gettting a dog before it's level increases as explained on Rich's dog. Cesar Millan also talks about controlling your dog before the level escalates more. I can also see though, how it can cause my dog to think a visitor is causing the stim and that's not good.
Maybe you could treat it as two separate issues. Get her sit-stay to where she won't get up until released even with a strong temptation. We have always had people we know help us stop our dogs from jumping up by ignoring them and not showing them any attention until they sit, I give a correction right as they start to jump and when they sit and show some self control they get a pet.
