You might be on to something. I got down on all fours and stared into the bowl and yep, I could see myself. Stainless steel bowl and water equals reflection. I switched to a ceramic bowl with no reflective qualities so we will see what happens. He did drink a couple of times today but he does sneak up on the bowl each time. He is funny.
Has this dog been vaccinated for rabies yet? it may be a long shot, but sometimes aversion to water (in any form) is a sign of a rabies miasm...(a miasm is the body/mind/emotions manifesting signs of the disease without actually having the disease)
One of the old terms used to refer to rabies is "hydrophobia" =Fear of water.
If the dog has NOT been vaccinated for rabies, never mind!
HUH? He was vacinated about 4 or 5 months ago. His situation is sort of humorous but not if what you are saying is the problem.
I don't think there is any way to know 100% if this is linked to the vaccine. If you call your regular vet they will tell you it has nothing to do with the rabies vaccination. The only time most vets will admit it's a vaccine reaction is if your dog goes into anaphylactic shock immediately after receiving the injection. The truth is vaccinosis can show up days, weeks or even months after the shot is given.
I would look for a homeopath and describe the dogs behavior to them and allow them to treat your dog for this, it won't hurt and may help!
The homeopath I use for my dogs is in Blaine MN, but she may be able to help you out long distance. Here is the link to her website. http://www.centralbirdanimal.com/

Yet another reason to keep coming to this site! GREAT thinking Cindy!
What you describe *can* be a vaccine reaction to the rabies vaccine. Have heard of simular stories. MOST often the pup will outgrow it. Sudden fears and aggression have been noted as rabies vaccine reactions. Did your pup have its rabies vaccine around the time this started?
Nope, he was vacinated probably 4-5 months ago. Actually he seems to be regaining his trust of the water bowl. Isn't leaning quite as far to drink. I don't know what caused this weird behavior but the water bowl monster does seem to be gone. Now it is more like he is making sure its not back.
