Hello everyone ... I had posted about my friend with her Pit-bull that was biting her Paws I found out it was the pads on the paws that she was biting. And she took her dog to the vet’s that the vet’s said try anti bionic’s for 10 days and she did and after she flinched it she took off the cone the dog still is biting the bottoms of her paws and she is at a lost for want to do. Please help me. ... Thank you ... John Mayeda ...
Hi, John,
Everything that was said when you first posted still applies. What probably happened (from your posts) is that the dog's allergies were making her bite her itchy paws to the point of infection. So the antibiotics were for the infection, but did not do anything for the underlying allergy.
So I would still ask for a prescription of Hydroxyzine, because you mentioned red eyes as well as atopic dermatitis. I would absolutely start the dog on salmon oil and Vitamin E.
These things will help the dog's system deal with the response from the allergy (if the vet still says it's allergies), but these things do not remove the allergy because they don't remove whatever the dog is allergic to.
As it is now, the topic is too huge to address, especially through a third person. We don't know what the vet said, what has been tried (aside from antibiotics, which, as I mentioned, was probably a response to a secondary infection), whether there is seasonal change, what the dog is eating, etc.
Your friend will know a lot more after reading the thread and the web site. Perhaps your friend will want to join the forum and post specific questions. Also, your friend might want a referral from the vet to a veterinary dermatologist, if the general vet is at a loss.
