Last spring I posted how my pup was obsessed with small apples off our tree. He would play with them and loved chasing them down the slope in our back yard. Once the tree was bare we bought some small apples at the store but they proved to not be durable enough for dog play and the ripe apples were too much for the dobie to resist. She would eat them as soon as she managed to get it away from the pup, game over.
We were at the toy store buying a present for our nephew and I spotted a foam football shaped toy. It is supposed to be a water bomb, get it loaded with water and throw it at each other for good summer fun. The great thing is because its covered foam it weighs nothing (without water) and will spring away if you go to touch it. Threw it out in the yard and the pup will chase it for an hour. He hits it with a paw and it goes bouncing all over, football shape has it bouncing in random directions so he just goes nuts chasing it. I wouldn't let him play with unsupervised because I don't want him to decide to eat it but supervised its his favorite toy. OH Yea, came in a package of two for $2.99. How do you beat that.

Glenn,
Funny you should mention that but my Dobie loves our apple and lemon trees. She'll play with the apples until they are a mushy mess. Even the lemons are up for torture. I'm just worried she'll choke - my paranoid mother instinct! Fun to watch though.
I haven't seen the foam football - I'll check it out.
