Hello
Well i try in bad english writing to tell you about a trainig tip som friends got from a dogtrainer about dog aggresion.
well these peopel just moved together they own a gsd and an amstaff bouth male.
well it happend the great dogfight inn their home (no good obidiense inn their dog`s to start with)
They phone a "dogtrainer"
and got some tip`s from him . im verry happy they talk with me before they tryed his tip. .
Well i dont any way agree whit his type off problemsolving.
the tip too get the dog`s to stopp fighting was to go with their dogs on alead outside with a baseball bat.
not if but when the first dog show agression on the other dog the owner must hit the dog wiht the baseball bat as hard as he can no comand no nothig.and ceep on every day so the dog learn.
am i Crasy too say too them that this is the most stupid thing?
well i have already told them that.
I told them about this web site and gave them the adress so they can come and read articels with good sense.
I must say from my own oppinion that this is the greatest Forum whith the moste sence articels and discussion`s
Ihope you understad what im writing and im happy that i speek mutch better english than i write
Yes, that is the MOST stupid thing. It sure got me angry. If there are laws against animal abuse in Norway, that guy should be reported. I'm sure some people are taking his advice and who knows how many dogs are being horribly hurt. He is cruel.
since reading ed's articles (hopefully soon to be watching some dvds, but i digress) i've more or less completely quit spanking my dogs as a correction, a leash correction seems to have way more effect in saying "i'm the boss, not you".
ages ago i helped out for a little while with a guy who trained cattle dogs, and he taught me a bit about what ed calls "yank and crank", and even there the idea was if you had to smack a dog as a correction, you smack him with something that conveys the message. we used pieces of black polypipe cut lengthwise down the center almost all the way so as it would make more noise than anything. it also makes a pretty creepy whistle as it moves through the air too, sometimes just the act of swinging it while several feet from the dog would convey the message you wanted.
IMHO hitting with something like a bat, a piece of wood, or anything rigid can break bones which - even if you disregard the issue of abuse - will not get the results you want to achieve. there's no way to look at this guy's advice as anything above that you'd hear out of a yabbering hobo.
Good for you to report that person. I think with a baseball bat you could break bones in the dog's face or head!!! Maybe even kill the dog! I am sure the owners only want to teach their dogs, not beat them!!
