It’s time to rotate kibble for my 3 year old Shepherd. He has a chicken/turkey intolerance. So I was considering purchasing Fromms 4 Star Duck & Sweet Potato. However, barley is the third ingredient. I’ve been told not to feed barley to Shepherds because it increases the potential for bloat. Does anyone have an opinion or was I given incorrect information?
I've been down that road but the problem actually became terrible gas pains for my dobie. Tried Fromm's and experienced some improvement but not near enough. Have been feeding Natural Balance Duck/Potatoe for 5 months or so with GREAT results. She still occaisionally has mild problems but nothing to be concerned about. I highly recommend the Natural Balance, single source protien and carb, no grains of any kind. Just my oppinion.
Two other tips given by members of this board were to give her food on a baking sheet and spread it out. This was to prevent the gulping and slow down the speed she goes through her food. It works. Another thing is to make sure the kibble is wet.
Dobies are prone to bloat also and that is something I heard about 30 years ago and continue to do it.
Hope the Natural Balance solves your issue as well as it did mine.
