Wow! That guy is just plain weird as well as ignorant. While Pits aren't my breed of choice, I've known many that were wonderful dogs.

i think people tend to forget a couple of things when they want to believe pits are all murderous monsters. firstly, they forget that all different kinds of dogs have the desire to chase and kill animals. i have no idea where dogs get that crazy idea....
secondly, that if you check the "equipment" on every dog out there, they're pretty much all capable of killing a human of some size or another. again, i can't for the life of me figure out why dogs are equipped like this...
it makes me laugh when people seem to think that a pit's "lockjaw" somehow makes them more adequately equipped for people killing.
personally, a pit is not my first preference of dog. not so much because of my own fears of the stigma, but because of the legal liability of owning one. my mom in law's chiauha bites someone? small claim, she pays for the stitches (probably), everyone goes on about their business.
your pit bites someone? bend over (legally), and bye bye dog.
i think it's sad because of a lot of irresponsible owners, the pit breed is under constant attack.

Pit-bulls and Rottweilers are simply the canine equivalent of the assault rifle or handgun. Heaven help anyone who owns anything reporters learn to pronounce because they will try to use it in every story they run with emphasis on their lurid imaginations.
It's the same with dogs, guns, music, anything at all. The news whips up unwarranted fear, people get anxious, and politicians pass pointless laws to protect us from things that are statistically improbable. Then we spend the rest of our lives teaching people that what they saw on the news was a lie.

Heather, you sound like me! I remember being 5, sitting at my grandmother's dinner table and listening to the news. I hadn't heard of Pit Bulls before, but after hearing about possible BSL and asking for clarification as to what that meant, I proudly and defiantly announced that when I grew up I was going to have a "whole bunch" of Pit Bulls, just to make a point. I was just outraged at the prejudice against them, and couldn't imagine how people could blame dogs for their behavior and place no responsibility on the owner.
Perhaps I was naiive, but I haven't changed, lol! In college my final paper was on APBT's, as well. This misconception is so truly based on ignorance, it's tragic. People were shocked at some of the content of my paper; most really don't know any better and are just repeating what they've heard.
I really wish they would just shut up. 5, what was that back in the 1920's? j/k
It seem's like the media has latched on to pitts longer then it has rotties and dobermans (in the past) for some reason. It is so weird how something can go from American icon to blood thirsty beast once the media puts a spin on it.

Funny Steve. Really funny ! Seriously though, how can people forget that dogs are PREDATORS? Imagine that; predators killed prey animals. I am shocked. Speechless And to then make a leap like he did...goats are not kids...pun intended .
The dogs in this story were not being murderous; they were being dogs. His statements and intentions, OTOH, were nothing short of psychotic. A vendetta to that degree is unhealthy and unbalanced. And he was given public space to spew it.

this reminds me of when i was in college, my rottXGSD was on a 30' chain in the back yard (this was ONLY for expediency when i first got home fr class and she needed to go out, ok?). one of my windows overlooked the (very small) back yard where she was. i heard her raising cain, looked out and saw a 10 yr old or so boy chucking rocks at her.
i bailed downstairs and out back, told her it was "ok", then looked at that kid and told him "next time, i'm turning her loose" (i was a little aggravated). he NEVER teased her again, and i set it up so he could. and he must've told all his little friends too.
also, one of the sweetest dogs i've EVER worked with was a pit bull (when i was a vet tech), the other 2 were Dobes. the nastiest was an ACD. so go figure--it's not the dogs, it's the owners.

As if irresponsible journalists were bad enough...how about a judge! This is a story I found in http://www.9news.com in Denver, Colorado. I am sad there is so much ignorace in the world.
RIFLE - A Garfield County judge says pit bulls are too dangerous to be loose in society, and if he could he would kill every pit bull.
Judge Jason Jovanovich was overseeing a hearing this week regarding a September pit bull attack. Seventy-four-year-old Judy McGruder had stopped at a home in the western Colorado town of Silt to ask directions when she was attacked by a pit bull named "Butterbean." The attack left her with muscle damage, cuts and puncture wounds.
The judge sentenced the dog's owner -- 32-year-old Julie Dawn Sullivan -- to community service, fines and probation.
He compares pit bulls to sharks or lions and says they belong in zoos and should be illegal.
The judge said, "If I had a big red button right here that would kill all the pit bulls, I wouldn't hesitate to press it."

funny, my dad used to say any judge can be bought. you just need to find out if it's money, drugs, or children the judge is into, and what their price is.
it's scary to think that the people who lobby to write bills, the people who sign the bills into law, and the people who interpret the laws are all fully capable of having their heads up their arse.
