I have to agree, those were OUTSTANDING police officers, and I'm sure they make sure and give their department a good name when in front of TV, but even still, I think they were more concerned with not having to shoot that guy, and used their brains more than their badge and muscle. I think they were great. Having been overseas countless times and seeing other countries LE, watching that made me proud to just be in America with those kind of professionals working our streets. Hats off to them, and other officers like them.

Could someone tell me what the heck went wrong in the video where the dog got shot (the one that Angelique posted)? Those were shots, right? Lots of shots?
And maybe some of the cops here could educate me on something that troubles me greatly....why do cops sometimes send a K9 into a suspect that is carrying a gun?? It doesn't seem right, not fair to the dog. I figure if a cop won't go in, don't send the dog in either. Am I wrong, if so, why? I really want to know the answer to this.
Sandy,
That was such a horrible scene.I heard that the handler tried to recall his dog but couldn't and when the perp showed his gun they had no choice but to shoot and unfortunely the dog was right in the shooting range.Very sad and K-otic sight.
Something to learn for those officers and the K9 hanlder. But if you look at that their was little that could be done to avoid it. And sometimes that's called miscommunication on the cops part. Some scenes are so K-otic that communication gets very bad, we had a shooting here in Vegas this summer that was very K-otic when an officer was shot to death execution style. That was very sad and chocking to most.
No this is not a place for a tazer. The dog may not have been appropriate either. Unfortunatly the video that is refered to here has been edited extensively and the voices you hear are not in sync with the video nor do they apply to the Deputies in this situation. Another example of don't believe everything you see on the web. Sooo to use it as an example is about like using a Jackie Chan film to educate people on the use of physical force in law enforcement.

Do you know that for a fact? Forget the voices if you think it is not the ones that goes with that video the fact remains that the dog was sent and shot in the line of fire. And by the way I was not showing it in the intent to educate anyone about use of force by law enforcement, it was mostly about that using a "k9" is not always the way.
None the less, the K9 sould have never been sent, that was a bad decision, and yes probably not a place for a taser either but a K9 was not going to help the officers at all in that situation.
That's my opinion.
ihave some remark and wonders on angelique movie:
iwatched the film with and without sound and the fact that adog where sent at an arm and expuse man with no hostages can have no excuses unless ovcourse the suspect was part of an terorists team that held hostages in the building and the film we saw was part of an whole attack that occur in the same time. allthou iwhould not send adog to that man aither. anyway idudt that was the case.
im aware of what the press can do to agood operation when they want
and yes we cant see the whole picture but the fact is somone done very bad job there.
im not an law inforce man im just an army man -so what do i know... but the handler that sent the dog whould be dismiss of any operation mission in the future in my unit... and yes iknow the pressure you been pot throu to send your dog under fire.
the man that gave the order to use the dog has some explenetion to do to - its look like they wanted to activate the armed person
which is amistake to as isee it. iwhould have alot of questions to the officers involved in that event if iwhere they supervisor.
but than again im not and im not in the country, the state or in the law inforce buiesness so what do iknow...
by the way iv been demostrate wonce my dogs in an security exhibition and there was acompany there that demonstrated abig tazer for long range targets with very accuracy day and night sights special to cases like this did anyone ever experience thos tolls?
