His video will prevent your Akita becoming collar-wise -- And just throw away any DVD that comes with whatever e-collar you buy <:-)
That Innotek IUT-300 is the only remote trainer I've ever used, but when it eventually wears out, I'll replace it with the IUT-1000 model to increase its range in the field -- I like this particular collar because it's very streamlined & does NOT look like some Frankenstein electrocution/torture device, plus the transmitter is worn around your neck & looks like a tiny cellphone...
Yes, mine are completely waterproof after 1 year's worth of use too.
Thanks, Candi. I will order the DVD, I promise. I've already looked at the entire Innotek video (it is available at their website) and, yes, their method of escape training is definitely NOT something I'm interested in. I'm sure Ed's video is far superior.
The IUT-1000 has a substantially larger transmitter so it will be much larger than a cell phone, but it should also have better range, which I've heard is an issue with the IUT-300.
The IUT-1000 also has the momentary "nick" function, whereas the IUT-300 does not. Have you found the lack of the momentary function on the IUT-300 to be any kind of issue?
Thanks,
Scott
BTW, the combo of negatives and positives is definitely helping with my girl Miko. Unfortunately I will be out of town this week and my better half will have to solo her during OB training. We usually split the evening with her so we both get to handle her. I'll be getting a performance report, I'm sure :-)
If you set the Innotek IUT-300 collar on Level-1, and then use the boost function, it actually nicks the dog at Level-3 (which is my bitch's working level anyway, so it works out great for us) -- She almost never (and I really DO mean never!) needs any correction at all on her e-collar...
And thanks for the tip about how much larger the 1000 model's transmitter is (I should have realized this myself) -- In that case, I'm going to stick with the 300 instead (BTW, my Akita is VERY high drive & alpha, but the 300 yard range is not enough of a potential problem for me to get the bulkier model).
