I contacted the Canadian Distributor for this drug. Currently it is only available in the US through special FDA permission. Go figure- you can get it in Europe, Canada, and Australia, but not here. I'm having them email my vet w/ the forms for FDA permission... but its not a guarantee that the FDA will approve it for use on my dog here in the US...
If anyone in the US has already gotten FDA approval for their vet to dispense this, can you respond so that I can contact that vet directly?
I realise its been a while since this thread was started, but having found it i have to say that I have a 3 year old GSD with OCD (having got him at 18 months when he had the disease, long story but basically he was mistreated by previous owners for his puppy growing - maybe a possible reason for his elbows) and so far I havent experienced any problems with him for about a year.
His elbows actually look quite alarming, and it is obvious they cant actually straighten all the way. However, after putting him on glucosamine/chondroitin, and using - like other people have mentioned - cartrophen, my boy is happily competing in obedience trials, starting schutzhund and running around in the park like an idiot despite my attempts to restrain him!
As soon as he starts showing signs of soreness, i'll retire him from trials but so far he's been full of zip and his condition has in no way prevented him from living a full life.
So from my experience, OCD is definately not a death sentence!
......is definately not a death sentance.
couldn't agree with you more. infact, sedentary life style seems to have a far more adverse affect on both humans and animals than remaining active. you know what they say, if you don't use it, you lose it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
