If you go to this site, you can pick a postcard and either choose a message or write your own to the men and women that are fighting for our Country. It is free and Xerox pays to mail them.
Hope it was okay to post this here.

done too, but it wasn't easy. i agonized over the art, and again over the message.
you see, i'm not american, and i'm not a support of the war in iraq - and i think we should have been out of afghanistan by now. i am however from a military family, and the soldiers don't make the decisions of where to go. i have nothing but admiration for the people who put their lives on the line for their country, regardless of where their country decides to send them.
i'm not american, but i live here, and - present screw ups aside - i enjoy the way of life offered here, which wouldn't be here without the soldiers past and present.
not to thread hijack, but my mother in law's ex husband calls himself a veteran because he served with the marine corps, but never actually saw active duty... he was a glorified clerk. is that acceptable here? my dad spent 8 years in the australian army, and never went on active duty, and he flipped out when i was young and asked if he was a veteran. in australia, a veteran is someone who saw combat. it doesn't seem like that way here, but it seems to cheapen the efforts of all the men and women "over there" who risk their lives, that he'd liken themselves to them. please don't answer if this is irresponsible thread hijacking.

Jamie,
Veterans in America could mean that the person has served during a conflict or war. You see, I am active duty military and while I have not seen combat, I may never because I am female, I will still make sacrifices for my country. I may get to see combat some day since our country is getting closer to that. I am a clerk, but that doesn't mean that I can't pick up a rifle if I have to. My job as support is NOT glorious, but war is not glorious. That is my contribution. It's not as important as infantry or airborne, but I do it and I will be accorded a veteran's rights when I have finished.
I am sure there are some on this board that will not agree that I am entitled to that, but to each their own...
There are several here who served their country for many years... Chris Duhon (?), Will Rambeau, and I think Jason White to name just a few... I do not know if they saw combat, but they sacrificed nonetheless for this country.
Carol- I sincerely apologize for the thread jacking... Awesome idea thanks for sharing... I have several friends deployed to sandyland right now.

Jamie,
Anybody who has served in the armed forces is considered a verteran in the U.S. Like Cat, I was an active-duty military clerk (Navy) & my ex-husband was a broadcast engineer. No combat, but still vets. I also have friends deployed there right now.
And to keep it on subject: Thanks Carol! I'll send one
P.S. I'm an Aussie too & we also have Kiwis in the US Navy.

Carol,
Great Idea
Jamie,
I was born in France and raised till I was 14.Yet I live here in the US and I call myself an American not french. My husband served in the Army and was a Tank commander but never saw war either, he wanted to go to Desert Storm (at the time he was in)but never got the chance.
I think everyone that serves in the military is a veteran and deserves the same respect as the one that fight in the war.Not everyone gets to be in the frontline but they sure all would go if asked.

Absolutely no hijacking offense taken.
My nephew was on active duty in Iraq when they were first deployed and was there for almost a year with the Marines. He was supposed to be a "heavy equipment" mechanic but he did a lot more than that I am sure.
I think anyone in the Military is a veteran. You live your life on stand-by and the knowledge of being deployed if needed is always there. I have never been in the Military but I look up to them and am proud of the work that they do.
I just want our soldiers to know that there are people thinking of them and wishing them well.
