I was wondering what is a normal life span for the average remote E-Collar? What I mean is, how long can one expect optimal performance from the unit before the batteries no longer take a charge, the stim begins to weaken, etc.
I use an Innotek Free Spirit SF-25A and it seems as though the collar is beginning to fail. (Or perhaps my dog is getting tougher. ) It's my first collar of this type so I have nothing to compare it to. Any input is appreciated.
I don't know the exact answer to your question, but I have an Innotek IUT-300 system that's over a year old (changed the batteries 1 time) and it still works fine -- But I believe most dogs become MORE sensitive to e-correction over time (not harder!) so they will generally respond to lower stim levels, rather than the opposite way around...
I use Dogtra and so far I have bought 6 units, some I have lost others simply lost parts or would not stay charged. They have worked fine but I have gone through quiet a few. Also my dog has been in the water with it on.It is supposed to be water resistant but I have never had a unit yet that has lasted more than 2 years.I don't know if that answers your question and being that I use Dogtra.
Well I use Tri-Tronics. Currently my oldest collar is a 3 year old Sport 50 about to have it's 4th birthday. It has had numerous rechargings, the transmitter was run over by my 3/4 ton Dodge truck in a gravel parking lot. It is used in water all the time. I use it for pet dog training for alot of my clients and retreiver training and it still works perfectly. I also have a Pro 100 and a Pro 500. I have never had a single problem with my Tri-Tronics units. If your Innotek has lasted a year I would say you are lucky. I have know quite a few people that have went with the Pet safe and Innotek brands to save a couple bucks and they usually without a collar due to various issues. I have heard minimal complaints about Dogtra. So I only recommend Dogtra and Tri-Tronics. I will state that I have used a few Dogtras but never owned one. In MY OPINION Tri-Tronics is well worth the extra money.
Thanks, this does help a bit. I will look into the Tri-tronics. My dog seems to be getting harder though BTW. I don't see that as a bad thing just more challenging. I also find that the Innotek I use is quite bulky so I wouldn't mind a unit the is a bit more subtle and less obvious.
I've had a dogtra 1100 e-collar for at least two years and the batteries are no longer holding a charge. Would it just be better to buy a new e-collar verses sending it out to be fixed? If it's not worth it to send back for repairs, I was looking at a tritonics website. Any you recommend otherwise?
I have tri tronics sport 60 model and have had it for 6 years. Not used all the time but alot more now that we are back in the city. I like it but could use a little more juice in high drive situations.
I've had a tri tronics for about 8 yrs. and have put new batteries in 2 or 3 times. It takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin' However I also have a D.T. systems collar and I absolutely love it.
