I have a minor concern about my puppy. He is 9 months old, great health, great working dog. Awesome ball drive, full, hard and calm bite on the puppy sleeve, etc, etc.
He has been in and out of Pano bouts since he was about 6 months old and they sometimes get pretty bad (His Dad, Pacer vom Leerburg is a big boned dog and went through the same ordeal growing up)
He now weighs 74 lbs, which I would not be worried about except that the last time I had him weighed, 2 months ago, he was 73 lbs...and thats on the same vet scale...
1 lb in 2 months??? Is that something I should be concerned with? HE looks pretty lanky but not bony and eats about 7 cups of adult food a day.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Renaud

Well if it makes you feel any better I have an 8.5 month old GSD who is also about 74 lbs. My vet said they go through periods of where they are still growing but not really putting on weight. Then all of a sudden they gain a bunch of weight again. I have noticed times when my dog looks filled out then goes back into a lanky skinny stage. I guess it is just part of letting your dog grow up. My male's sire was 100 lbs. and my boy is probably well on his way to being a good 90 to 95 lb. dog at maturity, so I wouldn't worry about it. My 13 mo. old boy has been dealing with pano also. He's a tall lanky thing, eats plenty, healthy & active, nice coat. If all other things show your dog to be healthy, I wouldn't worry about what the scale says. How many times have you seen teenage boys that look like their parents don't feed them...it goes with the fast growth. It'll all come together as the dog matures. I personally like the fact that my dogs don't have excess weight stressing bones, joints and heart. Funny how folks are always dieting, and if they feel ribs they comment on how thin the dogs is.
