How awful for the poor thing and for you too, to have to witness it.
I stopped on the highway last year sometime, to try to help a large Beagle/Foxhound looking dog that had already been hit once. It was sitting (with obviously fractured pelvis) right on the line in between two lanes. I was standing there, waiting for a break in traffic to run out and grab him, when some $^&#*&*%^ SWERVED out of his lane and SMACKED him on purpose!!!!!! Nearly wrecked himself to do it and of course, the dog was quite beyond help then. I swear, if I had had a gun on me and a faster car.........

...or a piece of paper and a pencil to get the license plate number...
I hope he introduced his car to a telephone pole. Or better yet, ticked off someone who is bigger and meaner than he was.
