He was sleeping when we got up this morning! I don't know what changed, except for the nightlight? Could it possibly be that I have a dog that's afraid of the dark?
Seriously, I can't believe he's fine. Do you guys have some crazy mojo that you worked on this dog?
You should have seen how happy my husband was! Do you think he slipped him a pill?
Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you.
Gotta love both Mike Arnold's and Bradley Martin's posts (any of their posts). Both mentioned fear (Bradley wrote fear of being alone), and Mike mentioned fear and additionally came up with the night light idea. That would not have occurred to me since I always have the hall light on at night and didn't cross my mind that you might not have a light on somewhere at night. Hope this is the permanent solution for your sweet pup.
Cool, cool! I love happy endings. Sara, it sounded like you really tried a lot of things (I love the dishwasher idea!) so I'm glad something paid off for you. You go, Mike!
Just out of curiosity, was your pup in your room or not? I just ask because my dog would scream at bedtime if not with us.
My bitch is in labor and there is a blizzard outside. What does that mean?? Many sreaming puppies in the kitchen in a kiddie pool until the 3 feet of snow melts and the ground dries
up. I know this does not help you but sometimes it is comforting to know others are in the same position.
Oh, ouch, that isn't very much fun. By chance Steve, are you in Colorado too? I live in Downtown Denver. I enjoy this weather because I can get through it if I need to, and bounding and swimming through drifts tires my crazy gsd!
And Sara, I am glad you got some much needed sleep. I have never tried this, but they have aroma therapy plug-in soothers for anxiety that are supposed to calm a dog. Hopefully, you found your cure.
Yes Fort Colins. I love the blizzards we get once in awhile.
Hell I just love every thing about CO.
Those who would give up essential freedoms for the temporary feeling of safety deserve neither!!
We brought our pup home at 9 weeks. For two months our son took him potty at 10 PM then crated him. If my wife or I stayed up later than that, we took him out just before we went to bed. My son got up at about 2:30 AM and took him out, then again at about 6:30 to 7:00 AM.
For the first week or so he cried whenever we put him in the crate and left him alone. It helped to turn on a radio and let it play. Over time, a week to 10 days as I recall, the crying stopped.
