My dog loves to play fetch. How do I keep him from dropping the ball in front of my feet each time? He will run back full tilt and drop it, sometimes it rolls to me, other times its 10 feet away. How do I make him keep it in his mouth? When I say come, he knows to come and sit in front of me. But he wont do it with the ball (or any other toy)

thanks,

I would backchain.
What is it you want? If it's to have the ball handed into your hand, then you train that... just that, at first.
Each piece of the command is trained, and when each piece is 100%, then you connect the links.
I agree with Connie go back to the begining, I always teach my dogs to hold before I have them retrieve any objects. Then they know the command hold. Then the out, and then the retrieve.
