Ed sells it on his site and gives a basic comparison between the Zip and the Flexi: http://leerburg.com/1096.htm
The large size was recalled as I understand it, see the LL Bean site for details on why: http://www.llbean.com/recall/zipLead/index.html
The large size will be available soon (Jan or Feb).
I've never used either, but if I were to buy one for a puppy, I would get the Zip, much more manageable in my hand. The Flexi is rather bulky.
Thanks, Sandy... I should have said, "has anyone used the new Zip Lead Ed sells here" since that is where I saw it and where I would buy from.
I did read the comparison and read about the large being recalled, but thanks for offering that information. My wife was the one who saw it and said the same thing as you- that it looked more manageable for her hand.
I trust Ed, so I'll probably just buy it, but I'd love to hear from someone who's used one.

We finally go around to ordering the Zip Lead (medium). It seems like a nice piece. There is a vinyl/ rubber like layer on the inside of the wrist strap that has a very nice feel to it and adds a nice feeling of security while on the wrist. i.e. it doesn't slip around and feels secure.
The mechanism works very well. And the unit feels solidly built. It might be a bit small for larger hands but works well for me and my wife also likes it.
On a walk, I found the easiest way to hold it was with the lock mechanism facing down while using my index finger to operate it. Very smooth and I had no problems.
The only weak point I see is that the cord seems thin. I didn't have a Flexi-Lead to compare it to, but the cord seemed smaller than what I remember. I don't know how this will hold up to the inevitable chewing, rubbing against rocks, etc.
Along those lines, there is a flat nylon piece leading up from the latch so that any chewing will usually happen on it and spare the cord.
