Hey everyone! My names Marc Layman and hail from Cincinnati, OH. I just moved up here with my dog from Fort Worth. I have a 1 year old Male GSD who I had neutured. He's 27" at the withers and 84lbs. At around 6 months we went to protection classes and the trainer said he did fairly well. We haven't been in a few months. I have a few of ED's DVD's on the way and we'll be starting back up now that he's a little more mature. What line does he look like to you guys? I just sent away for his pedigree from AKC. His grandfather on the dam side was a police dog. Thats about as much as I know. He's very alert and we have a very strong bond. He follows me everywhere. I would consider him more hard than a soft dog.
Welcome Marc,
First and foremost, I have never heard of a 6 months old pup doing protection and doing "well".Way too young. At a year he is too young to do protection work.Stsrting the foundation , yes but the actual protection bite work.Too young IMO.It's hard from those pictures to even say what your dog looks like , if you have some name on the pedigree you can tell us maybe we can help you on telling you what type of dog you might have but from pictures, no way.I think it's great that you have a strong bond,
tell us more what your plans are with your dog.....
Thanks Angelique. Well I most say I bought him first and for most as a companion dog. I should restate that we watched and the trainer played with the crack and prey items. Did not do actual bite work. I agree the pictures were not the best, I appologize. I know that he has american line in him. However he has one of the straighest backs I've ever seen on a GSD. I plan on Jordan and I training for Schutzhund. If he turns out unsuited for that, we'll do obidence and tracking.
OK ,that makes more sense, you can earn titles without doing the bite work, or tracking, but it's nice to be able to do all 3 phases.Cincinnati has a few clubs are you going to any of them?
It would help you a lot to hang out and work your dog with good trainers and helpers that can guide you the right way.
Good luck with your dog, as far as a straight back he does not look that straight on the picture I believe he was still very young but hard to tell, he looks nice.
Keep in touch, http://s141.photobucket.com/albums/r77/cadogancna/
I'm looking into them right now and defiently agree that will be very beneficial. We were in a club in Fort Worth before we moved. Thank you for all the support. Now we are waiting for him to start filling out. Can you recommend any of the clubs here?
Marc ,
I got to cincinnati to visit relatives but I haven't got a chance to visit with any of them due to the fact that we are always running around visiting everyone. But you can start a thread asking if there is anyone that reads the board here if they belong or know a club near you.YOu might get lot of responses.
By the way ,I have a one year old too , you'll see him in my photos , he weighs 99 lb yesterday at petsmart. He is a moose.
Good luck!
thanks thats a good idea, i'll defiently do that. wow he is a moose! Jordan is kind of thin so we're working on it. I would be he ends up just a little bit more than 100lbs. sounds like your boy will be much more than that! where did you get them? what line are they?
