So while I was out walking the pup this evening before putting him to bed, I was thinking about this thread and it reminded me of one of "our" cats and I use the term "our" loosely, and I just wanted to share it with you even though this is about dogs.
There was this "money cat" that somehow got into our house and we threw it back outside, but she kept getting in. This was in 1980 and my grandmother was living with us. Well we didn't want another cat around the house, but my grandmother seemed to enjoy having to let it out and back in, so we finally stopped putting it outside. We bought the canned cat food and that was it. "Omi" fed the cat, put it out and let it in. Every now and then I would see the cat outside playing with a shrew or a mouse or whatever.
Sometime during 1985, my grandmother had to be relocated to a nursing home. Long story made very short. When she was moved to the nursing home, we took "her cat" out to our camp where we lived full time. We were hesistant to take her there as there are Fishers out there and Fishers like cats, but we didn't want to leaver her in town by herself. Once out at our camp, she became a different cat. She would "meow" at us for food. Only she didn't want catfood. She wanted cheese or raw meat. If we didn't comply she would ask to go "out". Many times she would return with a squirrel or rabbit that she was eating. This continued on until 1992, when she was finally "put down" cause she kept vomitting and losing weight. Her quality of life was severely diminshed.
What I find most interesting about this kitty cat, is that she lived with us in town and outside of town for a total of 12 years, and we don't know how old she was when she came to live with us. The only time we took her to the vet, was to have her put down. She never had a rabies shot or any other kind of shot. Once "in the woods" she refused cat food and ate "RAW" lived a LONG Time and was happy and healthy as far as we could tell.
Although I don't feed my cat raw (she wouldn't know what to do with it, if I did) I can tell you it changed my ideas about all those shots for cats.
WHEW!! At least you didn't mention anything about pizza, at least in the human sense of that. My over sized jeans are good - at least for one more day!
(we use Natural Balance Turkey rolls for tracking - not hot dogs or pizza, but I don't think that's where you were going!!)
