Robbin, what Lear's photos don't show is an almost daily change. One ear would start coming up, the other still floppy, next day the ear that was up would be down and the other would be up. They were "finding their way" so to speak. For several days in a row they were in the tee-pee position, then one would flop across the other, then back to the tee-pee. At 12 weeks they weren't really up in the true sense of the word. They were still soft, like Polly said. There were radical changes from one week to another, and almost daily they were all over the place. There were days of no change at all, however. I haven't often seen soft ears on a German Shepherd, even the GSD mixes tend to get the erect ears from the Shepherd side. Not to worry. It's not often that one ear lets the other out-do it
Polly, I don't know if it's an old wives' tale either, I just don't mess with the ears a lot when they're soft. Probably something my Mom told me way back when (leave them alone to see how they'll be)
Sara, to my knowledge, not having the ears do the tee-pee thing doesn't have any bearing on the size of the ears at adulthood. I would defer to Ed's or Cindy's knowledge on the following statement if they read this, but I think some pups ears just grow faster than other pups, not meaning that the final size is going to be any different. Growing faster, to me, would mean there's more weight in the ear, causing it to flop toward the center, which I think is better than flopping outward. But that's just my opinion, not sure if it holds water.
For a while Lear's ears were so big, I was almost embarassed LOL. He's growing into them, they look pretty normal now.
