Dennis,I think you're right chemistry and the bond you built with your animals makes a huge difference. I feel like I have a good bond with my female GS,I'm a calm person and maybe it reflects on her behavior as well
Chemistry is important for alot of things
Mara, good for you , I think your dog enjoyed working for you better , the chemistry between you both is better than with her last handler.
Judy, I framed that picture, I have it on my bed stand. It's a soothing picture. My son has it in his room too
I am currently training our male dog, he is actually quite bonded to my husband and definitley prefers male company LOL's
Anyway my husband is not at all interested in any type dog training.
So I have had to take him out and train him, try training a dog that doesn't even like you! Well over the months he has started to come round, he at least makes an effort to comply now on the first request (lots of food and lots of food and lots of food)LOL and NILIF had to used tho, it has been an uphill battle, but I think I am beginning to get it right. But it would have been a lot easier if he were bonded to me for sure.So I think yes if he had another handler (like Hubby) it might have been a lot quicker to train him, as they have an established bond.
Anyway my husband is not at all interested in any type dog training.
.
I totally understand , my husband could care less to train the dogs but he sure love the fact that they are trained...by me.Sometimes I feel as though he takes credit when people say "your dogs are so well behaved" He'll reply before I do, "thanks" LOL

Michael,
I have seen teams trying to turn it around and the handler has done everything he needs to in order to do this, but the dogs had basically made up their minds that the handler was not worth working for. The dogs then went on to 1) become bonded and work great for a new handler OR 2) became a very nice pet quality dog.
I would not say that it could not happen, but I would say that it would take a lot of hard work and that it would depend on the dog as well as committment from the handler.
