I HAVE TWO ALL BLACK MALINOIS. THEY HAVE SOFT EARS, BUT DUTCH'S EARS ARE UP NO PROBLEM.
THE OTHER PUPPY IS SNOW. HIS EARS I TAPED MULTIPLE TIMES AND EACH TIME THE EARS STAYED UP FOR 20 MINUTES TO 2 DAYS. AFTER THEY WENT DOWN AGAIN. ONE EAR STAYS UP LONGER THEN THE OTHER.
HE IS ONE YEAR OLD NOW.
ANY SOLUTION???
There is a time frame when you have to tape a dog's ears to get them to stand. I think you missed it. I beleive its between 4-6 months. Did you tape the ears yourself or did you take your dog to a vet?
THE REASON FOR STARTING TO TAPE LATE WAS THAT THE EARS CAME UP SEVERAL TIMES FOR ONLY MINUTES BEFORE, AND I WAS TOLD IF THEY ARE UP ONES THEY WILL COME BACK.
THE VET SHOWED ME HOW TO TAPE THE EARS.
Peter what you might have experienced was the "teething faze" during this time erect ears can go up and down, this when your dogs ears may have looked up, Did you give lots of
meaty bones, they can help alot during this period, also helps dislodge those puppy teeth that could be retained, chewing also helps strengthen the muscels around the ear, in some cases massaging can help it encourages blood flow to the area.
Taping them to early can create problems as well, you get what I call a "cone ear" it looks funny kinda broad, anyway I can tell LOL's it's kinda hard to describe but once you seen it you won't miss there after, anyhow taping to late also has it's downside,
the ears are never really firm, but at least they stand, they will always have a soft look, again has to be seen hard to describe.
I think you may have missed the critcal period for taping,
If the dogs are for working, I wouldn't worry about it to much,
I know it is dissapointing when you have expectations that the ears will stand. You can try the massaging gently from bottom to top every day, twice a day but it may be a bit late now.
