I got a super Czech workinglines puppy much sooner than expected. He's 10 weeks old, very good temperament, food-motivated.. but a bit stubborn. I have some slight disabilities (not chairbound) and really need a trainer to help me establish some initial control for walks.
All the "pet trainers" in my area use "Purely Pawsitive" methods. Waiting passively for a strong, enthusiastic GSD to stop misbehavior sounds entertaining-- provided you don't have any disabilities. Anyway, if anyone, professional trainer or not, is willing to come to N. Dartmouth, MA to help me establish a bit of control-- that would be wonderful! Any references to trainers are also very welcomed!
Thank you.
Hi Patti,
There is a great mailing list for New England that includes some Schutzhund people and you might find some resources there: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/k9NE/
The trainer I use is in Milford, MA and I'm not sure how far she'd travel, but she'd be perfect for you. Her site is http://www.alphadogk9.com. Give her a jingle and she might be able to help, or know someone who can.
Dartmouth would be a stretch, but I did basic thru CD level obedience at Canine College in Holbrook, MA and they are GREAT. They also do schutzhund work, if that's something you think you'd be interested in. http://caninecollege.net/
Lance Woodley is supposed to be very good. You can find his number on the USA Teaching Helper list at the Schutzhund USA site. Also further away but I know to be a very good trainer/breeder is Mike Pinksten of Olympia Kennels. Olympiakennels.com I think??
