Does anyone have any experience with perianal fistulas? And does anyone know a good surgeon in North Carolina for this problem? I know the vet school is in Raleigh so a name from there would be great. The dog is Wilmington, NC...Thanks
I have a dog with PF and know a very GOOD and reasonable surgeon in VA about 6 hours north of Charlotte who was given to me by referral from someone else who used him....HE is in Harrisonburg VA.
BTW I live south of Charlotte in SC but that was what I could find. I called the vet school in NC and got no help.
Also recommend the owner get on the PF-L groups at yahoo.com. There are other options; we chose surgery and am glad we did. I have a *new* dog now --- the difference is remarkable -- at 7 he is where he was at 5 (We did not realize the over all decline in vigor and attitude as it came on slowly, but after he recovered - WOW!)
PM me for info on the surgeon and I can send you the info from work. He did a very nice job on my dog who had extensive fistulas. I know that is quite a drive but I tried very hard and this guy has established a reputation for this ---- while I was there he was talking with someone from Ohio. I would expect two trips, one to be put on metronidazole and protopic and to assess and a second for the surgery; I stayed a few days after in a motel room before I came back home. And spent weeks of hell keeping him from licking his butt.
