My pup and I are still enjoying raw feeding: chicken wings and patties from the B.A.R.F book.

My headache has been that I wil go away for two weeks soon, and the boarding facility here (in Taiwan) will NOT do raw feeding, they do not want to be liable for any problems. I can accept that, it is not my job to educate them.

So, I ordered the Honest Kitchen Embark and Preference from Leerburg. Well, major drama with customs, and I ended up with being allowed to keep the vegetable Preference, but the turkey Embark had to be returned.

So, I resigned myself to the fact that for two weeks the pup would have to go back to kibble. Today I went to the pet store to buy some, so that I could watch her while she readjusts, and I noticed a brand new product on the shelf:

Orijen, from championpetfoods.com :
"biologically appropriate Real-Food Kibble,"
"No grain, 70% meat and 30 % fruit, vegetables and botanicals," (detailed list of ingredients at bottom of this post).

I am very excited, because even though it is kibble, it is grain free etc.

Does anyone have any knowledge about this product, and is there any reason I should be concerned, or can I now relax about the feeding problem?

I will go back to real raw meaty bones after the trip!

ORIJEN Puppy has a biologically correct (70/30/0) ingredient ratio of 70% meat, and 30% fruit and vegetables (with 0% grain) that are low temperature cooked at 90c to preserve their natural goodness.

Hey, thanks for the info, it looks like I can get this food in a store near us...I've been looking for an alternative to Timberwolf which is a bit pricey.

I'm not a dog nutritionist, but it sounds great for a kibble.

Hi all,

Well, I started feeding her the Orijen for a week before I left and she had no problem switching over.

I did noticed that immediately the volume of her feces increased massively, and that horrible STINK came back.

Anyway, she survived her three weeks of kibble, and is now back on the raw chicken at night and Honest Kitchen's Preference mixed with offal in the morning.

My pup is back on RAW, but I have switched my two cats over to Orijen feline.

I use a self feeder for my cats, and have noticed that I only need to refill it every month, instead of every two weeks. Of course I now need to adjust the amount I put in the feeder, because I don't want the food to sit there for a month. The point is that they are eating less, which offsets the higher cost.

I have also noticed a dramatic decrease of stink in the litter-box, and I do not have to clean it as often as before.

My cats have lost some weight. I don't know how much 'cause I have not weighed them for a long time, but it is obvious by looking at them, AND they are more active and willing to play with toys.
