I use an Innotek FS-25A and I'm wondering if the effectiveness of the unit can be adversely affected by cold temperatures. Over the last week or two the ambient temperature outside has been roughly -20 to -30 Celsius (not sure what that is fahreheit) with a wind chill dropping the temp an additional 5 to 9 degrees. It seems as though the stim is not reaching my dog in this weather. Has anyone experienced a similar fault with an e-collar unit of similar design? Or could it be that the dog is too cold to feel the stim?
Brad,
I do not think you have a real problem with the e-collar just the really cold weather. Batteries die very quickly in the cold and it may be just that the cold is draining the battery really quickly. Kind of like when I go sking, have to keep one battery in the camera and the other inside my jacket close to my body to maintian heat. If I do not do that the camera dies very quickly and before I can get a shoot off. So perhaps you are seeing that. If memory serves me correctly, 0 Celsius is 32 degree F so you are looking at something below 0 on the F scale that will surely kill my batteries very quickly indeed.

Ya that makes sense, thanks Jay. That idea did actually cross my mind but I dismissed it because I always check the battery when I get home, to see if I need to charge it for my next use. This Innotek model has a light that blinks green when bat life is good and red when low. But that's a very good point on the cold affecting battery life. I'll keep a closer eye on it while I'm outdoors today, thanks.
Brad,
Just kind of an FYI thing, I do not completely trust my little green light on my Innotek collar have seen a few times now where it was all green and blinking but very low on the charge, so that is just a heads up on that. Here in Texas we do not generally have cold weather so in most cases that is not a problem for us, heck I think it is cold when the temp drops below 70.. LOL
