(the main question is near the bottom, sorry for the long post)
I don't post here much but read the forum pretty much everyday.
I have been working very slowly on a competetive style fuss with my american pit bull terrier Sweetie. As I am only going off of what I have read in books and online, I have been taking it slow to try and get it right. I have also been trying my darndest to keep the drive in it.
One thing I though we had almost perfected is the military style finish where she flips to my left side rather than go around my body. She is the first dog I have trained this style of finish to. She does it wonderfully, although she does go wide sometimes. But she has amazing eye contact, flies into the air and lands at my side in a good fuss position (most of the time). I had started the move to the ball instead of food to increase her drive, which has been working well.
Problem is, someone pointed out to me the other night that she does it backwards. Instead of swinging her butt in towards my leg, she swings her butt away from me with her chest/head by my leg. (I hope you guys can understand this)
My question is, since she has started doing her finish so nicely (even though it is backwards), what are the requirements for competition? Do I need to go back to square one and reteach her to flip the other way? I tried this and she has a hard time spinning the other way, so it is going to be a lot of work.
I have no intention of competing her in Schutzhund, but would like to get her BH and if I ever end up near a training club training her more in Schutzhund style obedience.

Often when you train the flip in one direction, the dogs stumble over it if you switch directions for the first little while. How long have you been trying it in the correct direction?
I did it backwards too, but it only took my dog a few sessions to do it as smoothly as the other direction. Just slow it down if she's having difficulty.
Oh I only tried for a minute or two. The thing is I have worked her a lot on spinning, she can now jump into the air, do a 180 and land facing me. So she is very practised a spinning in this one direction lol.
Do they have to finish properly, is it faulted if they do it backwards?
