Well..Levi just turned 16 weeks..and it seems that at 4 months old he is getting a tad bit harder to satisfy with just your regular play with the other dogs (although they do play alot, chasing each other, play fighting, etc.)during the day. So today I took him for a walk but noticed almost immediately that he was limping. I'm guessing he messed himself up somehow playing, although I don't know how. He is going to the vet on Monday for a check up and to make sure he is rid of the worms he had. So, assuming everything is okay with him how much am I supposed to exercise him daily. Let's talk distance or maybe even time wise. Are three blocks? Six blocks? Half hour walk? What? I could use your advice on this one..Thanks.
HI Robbin
Well at 16 weeks, we don't "exercise" a pup.For one he is limping, he might have pano. You let him play with older dogs ,not good.Due to the fact that they could be a tad too rough with him and many other things. At that age FOR ME I don't walk mine on a leash for walks I simply work on socialization.I take him place that we can "hang out" for him to absorb all the sounds and humans ,other dogs going about there business. When mine was that age , I would go to starbucks and sit for 20 minutes, let him look around see people walking by ect.., I would go to the park and just walk a littel and go where kids are playing ball or go where people are doing activites.I would go the Home Depot and stand by the door and let him see shopping carts go buy ect...But your pup is not ready for "walks" around the block. If he does have Pano , take it easy with him, and if it's your dogs being too rough with him don't allow them to play anymore for a while. Pano is short for growing pains. Affects dogs between 6-18 months, normally seen in large breed dogs, males more then females, aggrevated by protein in food, over exercising etc... and little is done for it other than anti inflamatory pills or liquid. Normal in nature, nothing to worry about, it passes with time, bit if you have it, you have to respect it. It is a wandering lameness, so, it may be seen in the front leg and migrate to the left rear and then back front again and so on.. 16 wks seem a little young IMO to see it, butit can happen.
