that WAS an interesting article john. absolutely on-target, but it seems that in ten years, the division between working/showlines has just becomes worse in general.
where can i find the requirements for the Universal Sieger, and the winners since the program started?
It definitely becomes worse throughout the 1990's...only 6% of the dogs entered in the BSP (Working Championship) in 1999 had fathers who were shown in the BZS (Sieger Show).
I'm going to try to find the Universal Sieger requirements. If Molly Graf comes online, I'm sure she could educate us. I think she had her dog Eagle in the running for the USCA Universal Sieger last year. On that note, I find it kind of sad that Eagle was rated last, SG1, in a field of 30-40 dogs at the 2006 USCA Sieger show. I personally think that this is very indicative of the showline bias at conformation events.
Eagle was rated LAST???? well, there ya go.
susan--thanks for the link, probly won't get to it til tomorrow, but then it'll be "interesting" to say the least, i'm sure.
molly, being the professional she is, would surprise me if she had an opinion on Eagle's place. doesn't mean i wouldn't mind hearing her thoughts on it though!
Ann,
Yes to be exact, Eagle was 40th out of 40 & Pedro Jiminez' dog Alex was 39th. As best as I can tell, these were the only two working-line dogs shown in to 2006 Sieger Show.
I don't mean to put Molly on the spot, but only use this as an example of the disconnect between the Show & Working GSD. Being the person she is, I too doubt she would ever say anything in protest of the ranking she was handed.
For those of you interested & don't know look up Eiko vom Haus Hazelda & compare/contrast to Eagle vom Eichenluft, Eiko was the Sieger (VA1).
well. that about makes me want to puke. susan--thanks for the link to USA's program. now, what about the SV program? anyone have a link?
is there a "Universal" universal? does anyone even care? wait--i know of one person at least that does; she believes that working dogs can have more correct structure and that showline dogs can have better working abilities.
personally from what i've seen/read/heard in just 18 months, in order to continue to improve the breed as a breed, it would require that first, no one makes ANY money breeding GSD. ha. ha.
anyway (before i REALLY get going), until that happens, i'll just try to learn how to be a better trainer and stick w/dogs that at least have the basic shepherd instincts.
