I have a litter of 6 GSD pups now 2 1/2 weeks of age. There is one puppy in the litter that has an odd sound to her cries and barks, almost as if there is a squeaky toy stuck in her throat. It is different enough that even my bitch will turn and cock her head at the pup when she squeaks. She is gaining weight along with the other pups and appears perfectly normal otherwise. The bitch cleans and feeds her just as she does the others.
One of my concerns is megaesophagus and if it may correct itself in time. I have given supplemental formula, very similar to the supplement formula described on the Leerburg site. I will begin weaning later this week. So far she has had no problems with keeping down mother's milk or the supplement.
I was just wondering if anyone else has had this experience and if so what was the outcome? Thank you so much for your time.
It ended up being an abcess under her chin. They drained some fluid off and put her on Clavamox and she is doing much, much better. Odd things never stop happening and i thought i would post the update so others could learn from the experience.
Thanks for sharing that, Cindy. I'm sorry no one had any advice or experience to share with you. I read your post and felt bad for you...but had nothing to offer. Thanks for the update! I'm really glad the little one is better!
