Only because my pup got a bad case of diahreah did I start question dog diet and dog food, and happened upon this web site and the discussion board.
When I told the vet that I was feeding the pup his dogfood and rice, she stated oh no, you need to be feeding boiled meat and rice.
So I'm thinking if this stuff is so good, why do I need to change his diet when he isn't well. He got a couple of solid weeks of boiled meat (mostly turkey) and rice. Of course, now everytime I start cooking food, he thinks it is still for him.
He eats his Nature's Variety but I know that he will prefer RAW when we get there. And to be honest we haven't made the switch yet due to my schedule. The NV Kibble is just easier & the THK is just to pricey for my budget.
Some dogs, I won't mention any names <cough-germanshepherds-cough> have finicky digestive tracts.
Feeding commercial dog food isn't bad, I can't say that sincerely enough, it simply doesn't make you a bad person. If you do your homework your dog can live a long, health, and productive life on commercial food.
My dog ate Precise for puppies, then adults. All of a sudden, both gave him diarrhea, no rhyme, no reason. Several other brands did the same. Do the best you reasonably can and sleep well

Ditto!
Leerburg has a great and simple raw diet outlined, and a terrific dehydrated food that can be fed as is or to which RMBs, meat, etc. can be added, and a list of good kibbles.
I think that putting some thought into it, steering clear of the real crap foods (Science Diet, Eukanuba, Purina, Hills, et al), and doing the best you reasonably can is definitely THE goal.
