So I have moved our pup up to the XL Crate in the bedroom now. He was in the medium sized one up until a week ago. Last week for (3) nights in a row, when I went to go put him into his crate at bedtime, he barked and tried to "bust" out at me. So on the 3rd night I went and got the XL Crate and swapped it out, and we've had no issues since.
It's not that much bigger in terms of space, but it is a lot taller and I suspect that was more of the issue, was the lack of height in the medium. But to help fill it out, I've moved his pink pillow from the daytime crate (also XL) in the kitchen to his nighttime crate.
But now I'm worried, do they make an XXL crate? AT 20 weeks and 35 lbs or so, he still have a lot more growing to do!

Louanne,
The crate does not have to be a condo for the dog. I use 400 and 500 crates (XL and XXL) for all of my dogs and they are grown (three are 50-60lbs and one is 90 lbs). At 20 weeks and 35 lbs, I would think a 300 should suffice and be one he could use until he was 8 mos to a year.
The more room the dog has in a crate, the more stuff they can figure out to do in there, ie. potty, poop, chew, dig at the door, ect.....
Sounds more like he may be trying to train you to get what he wants. Mine try it every once in a while.
What makes you think that he needs that big of a crate?

You're probably right. He shouldn't need the XL already ... but after changing to the XL from the Medium, he's back to normal nighttime crating procedure. As I already owned (2) XL crates, it wasn't like I had to go out and buy one to upsize.
I have a "Nylabone" medium in my van that I use there, at my mom's, the hotel et cetera, as it can be collapsed while traveling if necessary. And he's fine with that one. Of course, that is the one that I "bribe" him into with something for food. I don't bribe him into the bedroom crate or the kitchen crate, I just say CRATE and direct/heard him into it.
Fortunately, he hasn't peed in his crate in (8) weeks, so I'm not as concerned about that. In preparation for possible boarding, I have been crating him more during the daytime rather than free in the kitchen with me, and he's fine with that too.
