Sandy I wanted to tell you, I was going to PM but since you're on line, I have given that exact can to my cats and you can tell it is cooked and smells just like a canned product, not smelly like green tripe should be.My cats did not care much for it, and you know too I noticed the color of it was as if colouring had been added. The owner of a hollistic store gave me the can for my cats to try.I never bought any since that.Actually my cats eat the green tripe I give the dogs.
Maybe you're the one to ask...my dog has been passing gas like there's no tomorrow. It's really awful . He's never been a gaseous dog before. But since I've been feeding him something in the last 2 weeks - oh my God! Could it be the tripe?

Angelique,
Maybe you're the one to ask...my dog has been passing gas like there's no tomorrow. It's really awful . He's never been a gaseous dog before. But since I've been feeding him something in the last 2 weeks - oh my God! Could it be the tripe?
Yes, it could. Not just tripe, but any new, particularly enzyme-rich, fermented-type food.
Think of a human eating a large amount of -- oh, say, sauerkraut -- for the first time ever. Or, similarly, think of suddenly going from no dried fruits to eating half a bag of prunes in a day. Different results; same idea.
While partially fermented foods do a great job as digestive aids, one starts them slooooooowly.
A little bit at a time....... as the system acclimates.......
Hi Angelique -- I order a good deal of my raw food from a local distributor. Found she carries green tripe -- my order will be in next week. Happy to avoid those shipping costs!
Did I read your post correctly -- the correct amount to feed for the best results is 48 oz per week? I understand that can be broken down into daily servings or say 3-16 oz servings.
And based on Connie's post, maybe I will introduce it in smaller amounts at first and increase those gradually.
Like everything you add into your pets diet you want a gradual introduction. I never feed the same amount everyday but they never get less than 8 oz a day and they can get up to 50% of their daily intake. It all depends , I keep it different everyday.
If you go by what an animal in nature eats, it's never the same everyday as far as ratio goes but I still try to maintain an overall balance, I believe it's important for our domesticated pets but it does not have to be on a daily basis. But as far as green tripe you CAN feed it as a full meal some days and others being as little as 10 % .It is all up to you, just remember throughout the week that you balance your dogs diet. 48 oz is not much if you were to divide it by 7 .That is why I say IF you are only going to feed it 3 days a week 16 oz (and I should have said on a big dog at around 90 lb.I forget that my 2 males are 100 lb, lean. But I would say if your dogs is about 75 than reduce the oz.But they really can eat a full meal ratio with no side affect or problems.
Thanks Angelique -- I am on the same page. I enjoy the time and effort I put into feeding my dog -- it is a little different every day but at the end of the week I strive to make it complete and balanced too.
