I've got the DVD and have begun attempting ball work with Bodo. He will chase the ball somewhat, but more often than not, wants to jump up on me instead of run around me after the ball. It's like he's trying to knock me off balance in order to make it easier for him to get the ball. Any advice?
Thanks
Kameron
Your body may be moving too much/fast and he is interacting with you rather than the prey item. You want to put quick movement into the prey item and make it "come alive". Watch the section on handler errors to avoid falling in the trap of bad habits, and look at the people depicted who are 1. putting too much movement into their body and 2. not putting enough movement into the prey item.
try tieing the ball to a string and attach the string to a stick...that way u get to stand still in on a spot and wave the stick around dragging the ball...
Currently i have an old stick with a old shirts sleeve attached the the end snd the sleeve is puffed up with staw and it has dried leaves hangin from it..so as i shake it it makes a noise and i drage that in circles...My boy, Achilles, goes crazy and chases it all the time...i let him get close and then pull it away..he has gotten faster and faster since i started this last week.
he has even started jumping off the ground. he never seemed to have the energy b4. always just trotted after sumin then sat ther watching it..no i drage the arm in circles and just as he's about to get it i lift it off the ground and he goes flying at it...his gona be a so great at take downs...
