Well, everyone knows that I've been thinking about switching for a while. And we've switched, hopefully for good.
Remi is eating the Natures Variety patties and then we are also giving him rabbit when we can get some. Gave him one last night, and he is very dainty about it. I'll see if I can get the video off hubby's phone and on the internet somewhere.
I'm hoping that hubby will see the benefits and stick with it. Remi gets ear infections quite often and it doesn't seem to matter what kind of good kibble we put him on.
So - wish me luck with having the hubby help me stick with it. And if I have questions I'll be sure to ask.
Welcome to the ranks of left coast raw feeders! I've had a couple GSDs on it for about 8 years and always get comments about good they look - even from the vet we hardly ever see anymore - and he's not a raw feeding supporter. By all means, ask any questions that come up. I think it's a continuing education process for all of us. I know it'll make Remi healthier, but I can't address the ear infection aspect. I suspect you can get some sound advice from Connie and others here.
I think the patties are a good place to start for people who are nervous or unsure. It shows you many of the benifits of a raw diet, but also gives you the confidence that the food is balanced.
My pup was on them since he was weaned and my Corgi switched over to them with great results.
The health I saw gave me the confidence and desire to start creating the diet myself...and it's CHEAPER!
We are pretty lucky to have a good supply of rabbits here. I've got 5 or 6 in the freezer right now. Remi is already starting to do better after just a few days...
I can't believe how dainty he is, it's pretty funny actually. We are easing in with the patties and rabbits and then once we're more confident about ratios and such we'll switch off the patties.
THK is actually located in California and a friend of ours owns aRanch supply store about 1/2 mile from the house. We have contacted him and THK about possible selling out of the store to get it at wholesale prices.
Right now we're feeding just Remi raw, but if we can get something easy and reasonable price then we would feed the rest of the dogs, too. But we're kind of experimenting with Remi.
I have to say, my husband was pretty excited after Remi's first "BM"...he said "WOW, it IS a lot smaller!!". He commented on the obvious use to waste ratio difference.
