I've just bathed my pup this afternoon. He's the quiet but playful type and likes to lie belly up for a good tummy scratch. His favorite prey item is a rug/towel but he also does good drive exercises with a ball or tug. But I've noticed he really likes rugs/towels.
As I was towel drying him. I tried putting the towel away from him and he suddenly growled (kinda like snarlied too) then barked (first time I've heard him bark) while looking intensely at the towel (not me). Is this prey drive or an early sign of aggression?

I would say he is learning to vocalize himself. With young pups, if they come up and want to play with whatever I have, if it is safe, I will play with them with it for a bit. (towels, socks, tugs...that kind of thing, my house has dog toys everywhere)
If the pups are vocal, I keep tension on the tug and slowly reach over and stroke them with my free hand. This usually quiets them a bit.
I do not do it too much until they get older though.
I do not think you have anything to worry about as far as aggression.
Just my .02 cents.
