Finally @ 21 Weeks (5 months) we've had some really nice firm stools here this week. I thought I was going to have to settle for "almost firm" stools, that loose their shape when you bag 'em. Then of course the "almost firm" would last about 5 days and then we'd go back to a couple of days of pudding. We've had only a few days of true firmness, but I figure it is a good transition, at last. A good sign.
And let me tell you that I am very happy that my pup transitioned over to a wheat-free diet when we did, or I'd be a wreck. It doesn't matter to me that IAMs Dry Puppy hasn't been on the recall list (YET), I will always wonder if that BAD WHEAT was in there or perhaps in one of his pet treats and the basis of this Diahreah & Vomiting crap that has been going on for almost (10) weeks. We've not had a vomit episode in about a week now.
Of course, I feel bad that I brought everything to the local shelter, in light that there could have been bad wheat gluten. But what is done, is done.
Great news, Louanne. My pup was also on Iams Puppy Chow for large breeds since we got him at 8 weeks old. That was what the vet recommended. He also had vomiting and diarrhea off and on (like every 3 weeks or so). This went on until I transitioned him over to Canidae after reading all the posts here about the poor quality of pet foods that vets are pushing! As soon as he was on the Canidae exclusively (also Canidae treats), he has not had a single instance of diarrhea or vomiting! It has now been over one month and I am very pleased with how well he is doing on this food (he is now 7 months old). I printed out info from the internet from the dog food analysis web site and showed it to our vet 2 months ago. He said, "well, the Iams and Purina foods are sometimes too rich for some dogs." I said to him that in my opinion, all the foods that he is selling out front are garbage! Also, that I believed Nickie had a wheat allergy and that was what was causing his problem. He had no comment to that.
Ditto ... I have only just heard of the Canidae ... and plan to check that out soon! In addition to continueing my "raw" research. Of course, our pup already gets extras ... which he loves!
Understood ... but there is a huge convenience factor especially when having to Kennel/Board, Travel or just run errands. Thank goodness that there are High Quality Kibbles available.
I find it better take the pup with me then worry about when I might be home. And I usually pack food and water with me just in case he ends up eating his dinner in the car, just like the rest of us.
