I take my dog to the off leash 4 or 5 times a week. HE loves to retrieve the ball. When he attempts to jump in the pond he gets a NO. When he gets winded (1/2 an hour of running) he heads for the pond and ignores my NO. I don't correct him for this This is his play time. Do you feel this might have adverse affects on his training which he does very well?

I have a rule: I never give a command that I don't or can't enforce.
If you're going to let him into the pond, don't say "no."
What you are training him is that "no" is "no, unless I feel like doing it."

IMHO, 4 or 5 times a week off lead for exercise is not enough and basically when your dog heads for the pond, he is telling you that he is tired and hot. My dogs are exercised 6 days a week for up to two hours per day (not all at once). We work on search training, endurance, strength, rubble piles and also we just play fetch and tug.
Why are you telling him NO anyway? Connie is right, if you cannot enforce the command then it should not be given.
What training does he do very well?
Until The Tale of the Lioness is told, the Story will Always Glorfy the Hunter
Harley is exercised every day and we train every day. He does well what you would consider basic training. Sit.down heel, stay He will not touch food or anything until given the command. He is in agility training but has not mastered it yet.
