I was looking at these two units for my 45 pound dog, and was wondering if there were enough Stim levels on the Innotek unit ( 7) , or is the Dogtra better because of the continuous adjustment Potentiometer?

I have Innotek products and to be honest they sit on a shelf and I use my Tri-Tronics collars and my Dogtra.
They just seem weak to me. That is just my opinion. Someone here may have better luck with them.
(I will say that I loan the Innotek products out if someone needs to borrow a collar...I usually do not loan out my other collars)
Maybe it is the difference of drives or the intensity of drives that causes my dogs to "ignore" or "run or bark" through the Innotek stuff.

Bob, you may want to go directly to Innotek's website & look at their IUT-300 (or IUT-1000) "Smart Collar" remote trainers -- the IUT-300 model works great on my dogs, one of whom is a really HIGH drive, very HARD Akita...
My Innotek unit has 9 stim levels, a boost/nick button & is digital, with a tiny transmitter than can be worn around your neck -- I really LOVE their Smart Collars!
Hey Bob, I have yet to have any experience w/e-collars yet. After watching Ed's dvd, I decided to buy a collar in case I ever needed it. After much research I went w/a Dogtra collar. I know Innotek makes good collars but the differences between the entry level and top level collars were too big. Dogtra collars were all very similar so I felt any of their models were high quality.
300 yards is the length of 3 football fields end to end -- my dogs are pets & the main reason I got them e-collars was to make sure they never run that FAR away from me while exercising offlead (my breeds, Akita & Borzoi, are independent hunters who are NOT handler-oriented by nature, and they USED to be leash-wise on longleads)...
Since the initial training sesson on my Innotek remote system, both dogs have been recall-reliable, so they don't "test" their collars with me -- However, the disclaimers say that trees, hills, buildings & such between transmitter & receiver may reduce a collar's effective range...
So if you often work your dogs from a distance of 1/2 a mile away, then I'd buy the IUT-1000 unit instead of the shorter range model -- but I've been very well satisfied with the IUT-300 myself <:-)
FYI: I spoke to Innotek customer services yesterday, and they (reluctantly) told me that the 300 yards range applies only to flat, open terrain.
When there are hills, or trees, the estimate is about 150 yards, the rep sounded like she was guessing on that, and the reviews mention a range of about 40 yards.
