I decided that I was only going to give my puppy a second set of shots, and only Distemper/Parvo. I called around to various vets in the area and while most have Parvo on its own, nobody has JUST distemper...I asked if they could order it, and they all told me to go elsewhere. So I'm stuck with parvo, distemper, adenovirus, and parainfluenza...they agreed not to do kennel cough or rabies, though.
One of the vets offered to give benadryl along with the shots, if I was worried. I haven't heard of that, and tried to look it up, but I could only find articles about pets nearly dying from vaccinations and being saved by benadryl.
I made an appointment with the vet who said he could give benadryl, because they were the most understanding and the only ones who didn't give me that "vaccinations are harmless" speech.
Yes, he's only 12 weeks old. I'm going to wait until he's a little older - plus my breeder (and my vet) recommended doing it separately from other shots.
Also, rabies isn't a big concern where I am, so I'm not worried about having it done asap.

Heather,
Most vets won't order the distemper vaccine for 1 client BUT a client can certainly offer to pay for the vial. We've had clients do that who absolutely do not want to give the combo vaccine. Your vet shouldn't have a problem doing that for you.

Thanks! That's a great thing to know. I wondered if something like that might be possible but I just had no idea of how to go about it.
